Christian Buerger is an assistant professor at the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI. Professor Buerger holds a Ph.D. from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. Prior to coming to SPEA in 2017, Professor Buerger was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Education Research Alliance for New Orleans and the Department of Economics at Tulane University. His research focuses on policy analysis, public finance, and education policy. Professor Buerger’s projects examine how the New Orleans’ school reforms and growing charter sector influence school spending and efficiency in the city’s decentralized school system. Focusing on nationwide education finance policies, his work also analyzes the impact of school finance reforms and tax and expenditure limits on school district funding, as well as the effect of recessions on school district revenues.
