Academic requirements

  • Transfer to SPEA IUPUI from Ivy Tech

    You must meet the following academic requirements to transfer to SPEA IUPUI from Ivy Tech:

    • 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher at Ivy Tech
    • 2.0 GPA or higher in your most recent semester at Ivy Tech
    • 12 or more college-level transferrable credit hours completed at Ivy Tech

    Ivy Tech transfer credits

    Your degree from SPEA builds on the courses you’ve completed at Ivy Tech. You may even be able to transfer into SPEA with junior standing and be on your way to completing a bachelor’s degree in just two years.

    The following Ivy Tech courses will transfer directly to IUPUI:

    Criminal Justice

    • CRIM 101: Intro to Criminal Justice
    • CRIM 103: Cultural Awareness
    • CRIM 113: Criminal Investigation
    • CRIM 120: Intro to Courts
    • CRIM 150: Juvenile Justice
    • CRIM 240 or CRIM 211: Criminal Law
    • CRIM 280: Internship
    • BUSN 105: Principles of Management

    Public Affairs

    • BUSN 105: Principles of Management
    • CRIM 134: Introduction to Criminal Justice Careers
    • POLS 220: Public Administration

    Transfer to SPEA IUPUI from Ivy Tech
  • Transfer to SPEA IUPUI from another IU campus

    Current SPEA students may transfer to and from schools on the Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses, either temporarily or permanently. All applications will be routed to the SPEA Office of Student Services for review.

    Temporary intercampus transfer students

    SPEA students seeking a temporary transfer to SPEA IUPUI must be in good academic standing:

    • 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher
    • 2.0 semester GPA or higher
    • 2.3 SPEA major GPA or higher, if the student has completed 12 transferrable credit hours or more

    Permanent intercampus transfer students

    Students who transfer permanently to SPEA IUPUI must meet the following criteria:

    • 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher
    • 2.0 semester GPA or higher
    • 2.3 SPEA major GPA or higher, if the student has completed 12 transferrable credit hours or more
    • Plurality requirement (the campus where the student completes more than half of the course work will award the degree)

    Permanent intercampus transfer students who do not meet these requirements may be considered for probationary admission to University College until they are eligible to transfer to SPEA.

    Transfer IU campuses

  • Transfer to SPEA IUPUI from another institution

    Students transferring to SPEA from another college or university will receive direct admission to SPEA if they meet the following criteria:

    • 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher
    • Last completed semester GPA of 2.0 or higher
    • Completed 12 or more transferrable credit hours

    Some exceptions apply. Students who do not meet all the requirements listed above should meet with the Director of SPEA Student Services.
