Steps to apply

  • Step 1: Take the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT

SPEA considers test results from the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT, but the GRE is the most common among our applicants.

You can request a waiver of the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT if you have already earned a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the United States, or if you have seven or more years of relevant work experience and are applying to the MSCJPS.

Students who complete a SPEA graduate certificate with a 3.5 GPA or higher may request a waiver when applying to either the MPA or MSCJPS program. To discuss options, contact Elijah Barry.

  • Step 2: Submit written materials

In addition to official GRE, GMAT, or LSAT scores, SPEA requires the following written materials:

    • Official transcripts for work done outside of the Indiana University system
    • Resume
    • Personal statement
    • Three letters of recommendation

These documents will be kept on file until we receive your online application. Send all documents to:

  • Step 3: Complete the online application

To apply for graduate programs within the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI, you will use the University Online Graduate Application.

Select School of Public and Environmental Affairs as your intended program and plan. This directs your application to SPEA. If you select a different program, your application will not be available for SPEA to review.

Please be prepared to pay the $60 application fee when you complete and submit your application. This fee is subject to change.
