Accelerated Masters

Start working on your master’s degree

The Accelerated Masters Program is a competitive program for outstanding SPEA undergraduate students. Students may apply to the Master of Public Affairs (MPA) or the Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Public Safety (MSCJPS) programs early in their junior year and begin fulfilling graduate program requirements during their senior year.

Graduate courses count for both graduate and undergraduate degree requirements. Before starting the graduate program, students must have satisfied all general education and core requirements.

Plan ahead

We recommend planning ahead with your academic advisor if you intend to pursue the Accelerated Masters Program. Your advisor can provide a list of undergraduate courses that need to be completed for the program, according to your current SPEA major.

Requirements

The Accelerated Masters Program admits students from the top tier of SPEA undergraduate majors. To be considered, you must:

  • Complete a minimum of 96 credit hours for the accelerated MPA or 102 credits for the accelerated MSCJPS toward your undergraduate degree, including specified general education, major, and elective requirements
  • Have a 3.2 undergraduate GPA and a 3.5 SPEA major GPA (does not guarantee admission)
  • Apply online for the MPA or MSCJPS degree programs following the graduate admission process
