Certificate in Effective Nonprofit Governance

Serving on a board might be a new experience for you. The Certificate in Effective Nonprofit Governance from Indiana University, a collaboration among community partners, is uniquely designed to set you up for success as an effective community board member.

In-person classes take place at IUPUI, right in the heart of Downtown Indianapolis.

Who should attend

  • Considering opportunities as a board member
  • New to the board member role
  • Experienced board members who wish to deepen their understanding of their role

Course Schedule

The six-month-long program consists of six learning sessions, which will include a mix of online and in-person class sessions and will prepare you to join a board or recommit to an existing board role with new insight and enthusiasm. Andrew Black and Mary Anna Weber will lead all sessions for the Certificate in Effective Nonprofit Governance. Both Black and Weber are experts in board leadership, development, and training.


Total program cost is $1,795, which covers all course materials, lunch and parking at the Indianapolis sessions. Cost does not cover travel and lodging.
